Linux Review: openSUSE 11.1

Posted by jamba on July 5, 2009

OpenSUSE

I would tell you how it was…but the live DVD never would load Xorg GUI, “too many failures.”
If you can’t even get X to load…I don’t think it bodes well for the rest of the OS.

I tried a few times, and I could dig around online and try to figure it out, but honestly this is something I feel should work out of the box (especially for a major distro)–and if it doesn’t, well, I don’t want any part of it.

Pity, I was looking forward to checking it out.
Oh well

Conclusion: EPIC FAIL

I also got stuck this time. However my jeep was completely stock with street tires. I actually busted/bent my spring pack in one of these videos.

More old stuff: Offroading 07-16-2006

Yeah….I got a little stuck this time (that’s what happens when you have open diffs, no winch, and wheel alone). Ended up having to wait for about 4 hours to get someone who could actually pull me out…thank God Brad had a tacoma at the time. Unfortunately, I also had to buy him a new bumper after it got twisted by him pulling me out.

…good times.

Old videos/pictures 060704

Posted by jamba on March 28, 2009

I was looking through these old pictures and things from Independence Day from 2006. Some of my best friends and I went offroading out on a trail locally, had a blast.
So I uploaded the videos and am reposting the pictures. Good times.

Here are the images (thumbnails, click to make larger). I’m still rocking the photobucket, but for future use I believe I’ll go with Picasa

Post No. 2

Posted by jamba on December 26, 2006

This is my second post. I have made the decision that I will use this blogsite for rantings and things of a less personal nature (generally speaking), and allow it to be public, whereas my other journal shall henceforth be private and “friends only.” I think this will be a better setup for me in my so-called internet world.

So, a little about me. My name is Jon. I used to run a website called factorQ.net for several years. However, I got tired of paying the expense, and the visitors trailed off eventually, especially after a virus crashed my site. Since, I have not maintained much of an online identity. Yes, I have a MySpace and a LiveJournal, but that’s not saying much. Who DOESN’T have those things these days? Also, they do not really define me as a person, nor do they really allow me to have a creative outlet.
So, I have created this “blog” with that very purpose.

Career-wise, I am a computer programmer and I design software for interfacing with databases. However, I also love cars (I have a 2004 Volvo S60R), and offroading (I have a lifted jeep wrangler). I like outdoors activities like hiking and camping. I also love watching movies.

I am interested in politics. I have a liberal leaning, but I also swing conservative occasionally depending on the issue. And when I say liberal, I mean Socialistly. and When I say Conservative, I mean Fascistly. …what can I say? I like extremes, they balance. However, in spite of being politically charged (and disliking the Bush administration), I am quite Religious. Seventh Day Adventist. But that’s neither here nor there.

Staying true to my dorky roots, I LOVE the Linux operating system. I have 2 computers (excluding my work laptop, and one computer in parts), and both are run on Linux. One is 32 bit (Ubuntu), and the other is 64 bit (Ubuntu and OpenSuse dualboot). It is great.

On another note, my girlfriend thinks that it is “Gay” that I have any “blog” sites. I think that may be something I will be addressing later, as I think it depends on the content of any internet source, as opposed to the general sterotype of said source.

Actually, I will probably elaborate on all of these things later on as time progresses and as the wind guides me.

I think that will be all for now, it is now the day after Christmas, technically speaking, and I think I am going to get some sleep.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
(even though there is no one reading….)
